During that time he was responsible for developing a unique guitar sound that came to be know as the Bush Ballad Guitar. This album, released September 22, 2002 at The Barry Thornton Tribute Show to benefit his family, is produced by award winning guitarist Michael Fix and includes some unique material. Barry was not only known and respected as a guitarist and performer, but also as a mentor and supporter on the young and developing Country Music Artists around the country, most particularly through his association with the Qld Champion of Champions organisation.
Track List: Mulga Dan, a brand new instrumental track from Michael Fix celebrating Bazza’s other role as comedian, “Mulga Dan” and featuring Michael, and two young guitarists Barry nurtured and supported, Benjy Pocock and Michael Muchow. Winter Winds is an unreleased 1981 recording of his famous instrumental recorded as a theme for the long running national radio show Nick Erby’s Country Music Jamboree. Rob Wason performed Me & My Guitar at the Charters Towers Festival, Bazza loved it, and it just could have been written about Barry himself. Circle of Sawdust performed by another of Barry’s many successful young talents, Sonia Kildey, with Benjy Pocock, it’s a song he requested she do whenever he saw her perform. The Old Rugged Cross a personal favourite of Barry’s performed by Michael Muchow and Joelene Mandrakas. Amazing Grace completes this wonderful tribute to Barry Thormton by the good and talented folk he inspired and assisted. All proceeds from your purchase of this cd will go to the Thorton family.
