Michael Fix Something's Cooking

Price: $24.95

1. Slow Food The title comes from signs posted outside many restaurants throughout Europe in a subtle attempt to prevent the fast food culture taking over the European custom of a leisurely lunch. 2. Primo Incontro (First Meeting) Written as a memento of my first tour of Italy, and first performed at the Sarzana International Guitar Meeting in May 2004. 3. Opposites Attract A musical conversation between a man and a woman. Notice how the man starts the conversation quite happily until the woman joins in saying something completely opposite? hings get a bit heated in the middle, but there is agreement at the end. 4. Where Are You Now? A romantic ballad — what more can I say? 5. Something’s Cooking You can’t visit Italy and not be inspired by the food. I like to think this tune captures a sense of anticipation of something joyful and delicious. 6. Theme from Peter Gunn Surely one of the most instantly recognised guitar riffs ever to have been written by a non-guitarist. 7. My Guitar is my (duet with Stui French) A bit of fun with one of my favourite guitar players, Stui French. The song was first recorded by Chet Atkins in 1948 and I think that, even 60 years later, it still sums up how most musicians feel about their instruments. 8. Can’t Buy Me Love/Drive My Car My tribute to the greatest band ever, The Beatles 9. Two Time Shuffle (duet with Nick Charles) This piece was put together as a tribute to fingerstyle pioneer Merle Travis. As Nick is a big Merle fan, and as we’ve been performing together, he was an obvious choice to include on this recording. 10. Blue Angel (Guest: Muriel Anderson) I’ve always loved the energy of this tune. The contribution of Muriel Anderson makes this version even more special for me. 11. True Hearts This was composed for Bill and Shirley Tunaley, as a gift for their 50th wedding anniversary. 12. Will I or Won’t I? One for all the indecisive people. You can hear the guitar saying “yes alright…maybe not...OK, I’ll do it!” 13. Heat of the Moment (featuring Jo Lack) Jo Lack is an incredibly talented violinist (who wrote all the string arrangements on this CD). Her contribution to this tune gives it a new dimension. 14. Thinking of Home Another tune inspired by travel, this was composed late at night while thinking about family and friends on the other side of the world, at the other end of the day. 15. Waltzing Matilda I’m amazed how well recognised this tune is in parts of Europe. I’ve deliberately arranged it to start in a minor key (as the story is actually quite sad), and develop the song as a journey.
