Living in Kinglake Victoria found David and Merelyn (Carter and Carter) in the centre of the Black Saturday Fires of February 7th 2009. With much of their property burnt, they managed to save their home and animals, but they fought hard and long and share the devastating effects of these fires with their local mountain communities. It is from these experiences that their song "Surviving Black Saturday" arises. David and Merelyn continue to be astounded with the spirit of compassion, empathy and hope that is raised and shared by all. This song is a symbol of the Australian spirit they feel and they are prouder than ever to be Aussies in this wonderful land where in times of adversity, we all stand together – we are all Surviving Black Saturday. ‘We had so many phone calls, emails and sms messages from all around Australia and the world, from people wanting to know if we were alright and how they could help.
